About Patent Attorney Network
Who we are, who the attorneys are, and how the pieces fit together.
What we do
Patent Attorney Network connects first-time inventors with independent, licensed patent attorneys, preferably in the inventor's own state. The match is free. We exist because most inventors don't know where to start, and many have heard stories that make them expect a scam. We'd rather show you exactly how this works.
Who owns us
Patent Attorney Network is a Montgomery IP Associates company. Montgomery IP has worked with independent inventors since 1996. Neil Montgomery is its founder and CEO.
Montgomery IP operates three businesses, each with one job:
- Patent Attorney Network connects you with an attorney to help protect your invention.
- 3D VR Studio creates product renderings, animation and interactive 3D.
- For Sale By Inventor helps inventors present and market their products.
We name all three because hiding the relationship would be worse than explaining it. Patent Attorney Network doesn't sell marketing. If For Sale By Inventor contacts you later, it's a separate, optional conversation, and you can ask not to be contacted.
How the attorney relationship works
- The attorneys run their own practices. They are not employees of Patent Attorney Network or Montgomery IP Associates.
- Each is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and governed by their state bar's rules of professional conduct.
- Their professional duties, including confidentiality, competence and loyalty, are owed to you.
- Your attorney-client relationship is with the attorney and their firm. Using this site doesn't create one with us.
Payment disclosure: when you order a patentability assessment or a patent filing package through Montgomery IP Associates, Montgomery IP pays the attorney for that work. You'll be told this in writing before you buy, and you can decline.
How we add attorneys
When an inventor is in a state we don't cover yet, we find a patent attorney there. Before the first referral, we check the attorney's registration (with the USPTO, or for Canadian patents with CIPO) and their standing with their state bar or provincial law society, and we put the same independence terms in writing.
